En la seva desena edici\u00f3 identificava 4.200 esp\u00e8cies d&#8217;animals i 7.200 plantes.<\/p>\n<p>Erasmus Darwin, avi de Charles, a la Zoonomia de 1794, proposa que totes les esp\u00e8cies superiors provenen d&#8217;avantpassats primitius.<br \/>\nAviat la <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paleontology#Historical_science\">paleontologia<\/a>, l&#8217;estudi dels f\u00f2ssils, en particular per Leonardo da Vinci, i amb Cuvier (1796) que practica l&#8217;anatomia comparada, provar\u00e0 que les esp\u00e8cies van canviant. S&#8217;havien descobert f\u00f2ssils que no pertanyien a cap esp\u00e8cie coneguda.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jean-Baptiste_Lamarck\">Lamarck<\/a> va estudiar els i vertebrats i, per donar ra\u00f3 de la variaci\u00f3 de les esp\u00e8cies, proposaria que hi ha un proc\u00e9s de diversificaci\u00f3 i que els trets adquirits pels individus es transmeten a la seg\u00fcent generaci\u00f3. (1809)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Darwin#Survey_voyage_on_HMS_Beagle\">Darwin<\/a> havia deixat els estudis de medecina a Edinburgh i a Cambridge estudi\u00e0 hist\u00f2ria natural. \u00c0vid col\u00b7leccionista d&#8217;escarabats. Va estudiar les variacions en esp\u00e8cies de percebes per confirmar la seva hip\u00f2tesi. Alfred Russel Wallace havia formulat una hip\u00f2tesi similar. Considera la distribuci\u00f3 dels nyand\u00fas, les tortugues de les Gal\u00e1pagos, els mockinbirds, la diversitat de vegetals i coloms resultat de la selecci\u00f3 artificial. Planteja la dificultat de l&#8217;abs\u00e8ncia d&#8217;esp\u00e8cies intermitges, o com es pot haver passat d&#8217;un organisme sense visi\u00f3 a un ull desenvolupat. Assenyala que en \u00e0reas geogr\u00e0fiques separades per\u00f2 amb el mateix clima, hi trobem esp\u00e8cies diferents, resultatdoncs, de variacions diferents.
