The television show Soul Train<\/a><\/i> and the 1980s films Breakin’<\/a><\/i>, Beat Street<\/a><\/i>, and Wild Style<\/a><\/i> showcased these crews and dance styles in their early stages; therefore, giving hip-hop mainstream exposure. The dance industry responded with a commercial, studio-based version of hip-hop\u2014sometimes called “new style”\u2014and a hip-hop influenced style of jazz dance called “jazz-funk”. Classically trained dancers developed these studio styles in order to create choreography from the hip-hop dances that were performed on the street. Because of this development, hip-hop dance is practiced in both dance studios and outdoor spaces.<\/p>\n

Hip hop dance is a fusion dance genre that incorporates elements of popping, locking, jazz, ballet, and tap dancing. It is a fusion dance genre. It primarily consists of choreography that is not improvised. Hip hop dancing is separate from popping, locking, and other dance styles that are characterized by specific movements.<\/p>\n

Breaking<\/a>, Breaking was created in the South Bronx, New York City during the early 1970s. <\/sup>It is the first hip-hop dance style. At the time of its creation, it was the only hip-hop dance style because Afrika Bambaataa classified it as one of the five pillars of hip-hop culture along with MCing<\/a> (rapping), DJing<\/a> (turntablism), graffiti writing<\/a> (bombing), and knowledge. \/\/ Breaking includes four foundational dances: toprock, footwork-oriented steps performed while standing up; downrock, footwork performed with both hands and feet on the floor; freezes, stylish poses done on your hands; and power moves<\/a>, complex and impressive acrobatic moves.<\/p>\n

Popping<\/a>\u00a0: Popping was derived from the earlier Boogaloo<\/a> street dance movement taking place in Oakland, California<\/a> during the late 1960s, the Boogaloo<\/a> dance form incorporated techniques of soulful footwork steps, arm movements, stop-motion animation, the robot, & posing hard – which contracted muscles during robotic poses to the music of Funk.<\/div>\n
